HELLO.

Rules

There is no specific policy as regards who is welcome but generally some connection to Camp or the Campers is a good idea.

Good singing voice is appreciated!

The ethos is generally Christian and girls are encouraged to explore what their faith means to them.

Clothing is down to earth and sensible: no frills or revealing outfits with a full-piece swimming costume and sensible walking shoes.  Long sleeved tops and tracksuits are advised for evenings in case of mosquitos.

There is a policy that girls need to have attended at least one camp prior to attempting Danger Point, and generally they need to do a half-Dangers before attempting the whole trip.

Because many of the activities are physically challenging, girls need to come prepared to get involved and to try activities they have not tried before.

While the girls are on camp, the leaders act in-loco parentis and girls need to be prepared to listen to and obey instructions.

The Hermanus Girls' Camp is built round the Annual Hermanus Boys' Camp that has been running for 110 years!

We have been running close to 9 years and meet for three nights during the time period the boys are at Camp.  We usually start the Camp immediately following the Family Day where the girls hike off along the beach to Wortelgat, and combine independent activities with activities where we meet the boys en route.  And, if the weather is right, we manage a terrifying Pirate Battle on the vlei.

There is usually a challenging hike up the mountain or along the beach.  In 2013 Jessica Gwynne-Evans was the first girl in many years to complete the challenging Danger Point walk- nearly 70 kms in one day!  Last year both Jessica and Catherine managed the entire walk – with Sophie de Bruin, Lucy Wills, Alison and Robs Quenet- Meintjes managing to reach the furthest point at the Danger Point Lighthouse before leaving the return trip to another year.

Parental Involvement

Dads are welcome to join us for a braai if they are Old Campers.

Mums are welcome to muck in and join an expedition  - or even to lead one if they have something special in mind.  Sailing skills are welcome – weather permitting.

The Hermanus Girl’s Camp aims to allow girls the freedom to enjoy and explore the wonderful outdoor location of the Hermanus lagoon and mountains in a relaxed and low key environment.  The activities are challenging

"The Hermanus girls camp is one of the most unforgettable three days of the year. Filled with hikes, laughing, smores around the campfire, friendship and pirate battles on the lake. You are guaranteed memories you'll never forget and a craving for the following year." Jess Gwynne-Evans
